Cases of drug abuse and intoxicated driving are rising at an alarming rate. At present in Massachusetts there are about 365 drug treatment centers to help the victims of drug abuse to re-establish their normal life, and nearly twenty drug courts to curb out the drug infringement.
Every section of the society is badly affected by the illegal consumption of drugs and its hazardous consequences. In Massachusetts, each and
every year several people become the victim of drub obsession. According to a report, every year around 1.5% of the population of this state gets affected by this deadly addiction. Age doesn’t seem to make any difference though; drug has poisoned people belonging from every age group.
If we look back into the year 2003, then according to a survey there are about 33,000 teenagers who have been affected by the illicit dug obsession. Moving toward the age group ranging from 15 to 25 will allow us to know that the number of cases has increased with the higher age group. There are about 77,000 number of cases associated with this age group. But, people belonging from the age group above 30 are said the worst affected, where the number of cases goes up to 86,000. Therefore we can conclude that elder generations are more prone to the addiction of drugs.
Due to prolonged use of drugs victims find it tough to deal with their obsession for drugs. The addiction affects in many ways and completely ruins their life. Apart from the victim, his/her family also gets under the claws of drug abuse. So, the victim not only spoils his/her life but also of his/her family members. During the treatment, some families have to bear financial crunch and has to go through the trauma of lack of social support. Eventually, the victim and his/her family have to alienate themselves from the main stream of the society, and in some cases they even have to bear the burnt of social boycott.
If the above said situations are not properly handled, then it can result in serious consequences and sometimes even felony. For example, in Massachusetts during the year 2007 there were about 68 and 305 cases of murder and forcible rape respectively. Where as the cases of aggravated assaults have been around 9,615, and 20,626 cases of drug abuse violations. Therefore, families have to play an important role in the treatment and recovery of a victim from drug abuse, and have to instill a feel of happiness inside the victim.
