It has also been recorded that the largest DTOs smuggle in more than 100 kg of cocaine and at times as much as several 100 kg of the drug into the Greater Boston area of Massachusetts. After Greater Boston, the areas like Springfield and Worcester serve as the secondary regional cocaine distribution hubs in Massachusetts. The cocaine wholesalers source the drug from outside the state into these cities and then send it for distribution in the markets of western and central Massachusetts. The Dominican wholesalers dominate the transportation activities in these cities and to a lesser extent the Puerto Rican wholesalers are also involved in the cocaine trade in these two cities. The drug markets in and near these two cities being smaller, lesser amounts of cocaine is transported here. According to the DEA reports, the drug traffickers smuggle around 1 – 5 kg of cocaine into central and western Massachusetts on each trip.
